6 DIY face masks with ingredients you already have
Right, it’s time for some self-care. And a lot of your favourite products might not be around right now… so it’s the perfect opportunity to try these DIY masks. Who knows, you may even like them better than the store-bought version. Bring on the easy, waste-free life!

Smash your blackheads with lemon

This lemon-based mask uses the acids found in the fruit to help remove dead skin cells which in turn, leads to fewer blackheads. Honey has natural anti-bacterial properties too.

INGREDIENTS
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
1 tablespoon honey

METHOD
Mix the ingredients together, apply to your face and leave for 15 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water.

Oats and yoghurt aren't just for breakfast

This combo will leave your skin feeling brighter. Oats have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and the lactic acid in yoghurt will gently exfoliate.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup warm water
1/3 cup oats (not instant oats, good old OG jungle oats)
2 tablespoons plain yoghurt

METHOD
Mix the oats and the warm water (hot but not boiling) and allow them to combine for a few minutes. Once they’ve become one entity, mix in the yoghurt. Apply in a thin layer and wait 10 minutes, then gently rinse it off.

Hide your pores with egg whites

It sounds wild, right? But egg white tightens the skin which can make pores appear smaller. The lemon, as above, gets rid of dead skin cells. Honey’s in there for a bit of moisture.

INGREDIENTS
1 egg white
1 tablespoon honey
A squeeze of lemon juice

METHOD
Combine all ingredients and apply for up to 20 minutes before rinsing. Remember to follow with a moisturiser.

The extremely fancy one

If you by some chance have spare avos (whomst among us?), then feel free to go for this very spa-like recipe. Especially good for oily skin, avo contains inflammation-fighting oleic acid and cucumber hydrates and adds a vitamin C boost.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 avo
1/4 cucumber

METHOD
Use a hand blender, Nutribullet or something similar to blend the cucumber. Mash the avo and combine into the cucumber mush. Apply for 15 minutes and then gently remove.

Stop making banana bread

When your lockdown buddies and all your Instagram followers are finally sick of banana bread, make this face mask instead. The vitamin A in bananas gives your skin a moisture hit. The other ingredients are actually optional, but by now you know what they do for you so if you have them, add them.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 banana
1 tablespoon orange juice
1 tablespoon honey

METHOD
Mash the banana and then add the orange juice and honey. Apply for 15 minutes followed by a gentle wash.

Maybe mask your whole body

This is a double hitter, the coconut oil acts as the vehicle for the exfoliator – brown sugar – but also goois some moisture into your skin.

INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons coconut oil

METHOD
Mix the ingredients into a bowl and apply to your face. Go gently as you scrub – you don't want to damage your skin. This is also a good one to take into the shower and do a full-body exfoliating situation.
