Our favourite festive gift ideas and tips for the eco-conscious beauty lover
There is something very special and gratifying about giving and receiving during the festive season. But what if we told you that not being conscious about our gift giving can be more damaging to the planet that we can imagine. The truth is we tend towards excess over the festive period and simply generate more trash and waste more during this time.

So, here we are to petition that sustainable gift giving becomes the new norm, without taking any of the joy out of it. And to add to all of that cheer, we are happy to share our favourite planet-loving beauty finds with you.

The Body Shop Festive Berry Range is as delicious as it sounds. Our favourites are the Festive Berry Body Yogurt and Body Scrub. The brand is committed to fair trade with their Community Trade programme, one example being sourcing ingredients from small-scale farmers from around the world.

Lush Gift Boxes, because if you know you know. These incredible gift boxes are made from 100% recycled board and paper material, the printed ribbon from plastic bottles, and to keep your products safe inside, the eco pops are fully biodegradable. (If anyone wants to send us the Glow box, we won’t say no).

L’Occitane Shea Hand Cream is a brand classic and a terrific spoil for a loved one. It contains 20% shea butter that is sourced via a long-standing fair trade partnership with women in Burkina Faso who produce it. And the product comes in an aluminum tube that is fully recyclable.

Staying hydrated is the ultimate beauty tip – by ditching single-use plastic bottles you’ll be keeping your skin and the planet healthy. Steely Insulated Water Bottles were created with the goal to minimise and ultimately keep plastic out of our environment.

Single-use plastic water bottles are a staggering problem and every time a reusable bottle is reused and refilled, another plastic bottle is kept out of our oceans and landfills.

Make a donation on their behalf. What's more beautiful than knowing you made the world a little bit better? Gifting a charitable donation to a cause that someone is passionate about about is an amazing way to show you care about what is important to them and the planet. There are an endless number of charities you can donate to but we suggest finding out which ones are close to their heart. If you want to surprise them, you can’t go wrong by donating to endangered animals and ocean charities. Keeping endangered and threatened species alive is critical to our biodiversity and planet and Plastic Oceans International does just that.

And lastly, please consider not using wrapping paper. Most Christmas wrapping can’t be recycled – that includes foil, cellophane, glitter or tape that ends up in landfills. According to Stanford University: "If every American family wrapped just three presents in re-used materials, it would save enough paper to cover 45,000 football fields."

If you can, get creative and wrap your gifts in something that can be reused, recycled or becomes part of the gift.
